Once you go DIY with your hair you never go back, I always say. I've done my pockets quite a reprieve and hair quite a beating when I first decided to bleach my own hair six years ago, and ever since then I haven't gone to a salon to have my hair colored or bleached again. Blame it on the lack of expertise most of the salons I've gone to have, or maybe I just haven't been going to the right ones.
A lot of people have been asking me about my hair color, although I decided not to break down how I got it to this point just to avoid being blamed for fried hair, or worse, hair fall out, I will however give you guys the concept behind my multi-toned hair
My hair is a mixture of different colors; platinum, silver/grey, and both light and medium ash blonde. If you guys have been to The Cebruery website, you will know that I am a big fan of wood restoration finish on furniture, I applied the same idea to my hair. I bleached quite a number of times and painstakingly layered on toner after toner after toner, and even used the dry brushing technique I also talked about on the TC blog.
Each strand is alternately toned, from light and medium ash to platinum and silver. To give it some gradient the top half leans more towards platinum and silver while the lower half is more of a light to medium ash blonde. I'm also planning to tone it even more in a few weeks with purple shampoo, which is the holy grail to getting that nice ash to silver color by neutralizing the yellow and orange tints on bleached hair.
I would like to stress that I do not claim to be an expert on hair, but after six years of this, I know my hair quite well, and for you guys who plan to DIY for the first time please be on the safe side and do as much research as you can and get to know the products you are intending to use well. Read product reviews, and if you can be bothered, even do test swatches on a couple strands just to make sure your hair can take a bleaching or two or even five!
